My Vintage Shiny Brite Ornaments

Hurray...our Christmas boxes were put into storage before the end of January!

The house seems empty now.

Not as colorful or festive.

I still have some of the original Shiny Brite boxes.

Is it just me or do you love these vintage bulbs as much as I do?

Still Christmas Here!

See me reflected in my ornament!
Slowly...very slowly I'm putting away Christmas decorations.

All the exterior lights and decor are put away and every room is done except for the Christmas tree in our family room.

I don't really make New Year's resolutions but one thought I have had is to add more RED to my home.

It's my favorite color and most of my Christmas decorations are RED but my home is lacking this bold, beautiful and bright color the rest of the year.

So, I hope to change that and bring more RED into my life.

How about you - do you love RED too?

Now's The Time To Craft for Christmas!

I've never understood why the TV shows and magazines always wait until close to Christmas to share decorating ideas... especially for crafts.

Who has the time to make something then?

Why not start early in the year and have your felt decorations all done well before the Christmas season starts.

These delightful felt ornaments should get your creative juices flowing!

Try a beautiful felt embroidered snowflake!

Or maybe a country felt star ornament in those lovely rustic colors...

Perhaps a pretty little felt heart embroidered and embellished with seed pearls...

How about a fancy Poinsettia pin in felt!

These would be pretty as garland too.

And lastly, if you are very talented as our beloved Elizabeth, or wish you could be, you couldn't resist making one of her felt snowmen!

Visit Elizabeth's blog to get her free pattern.

Have fun making these into garlands, ornaments or pins!

Let me know if you make any - I would love to see your results.

Fun Treats To Make!

I like these felt gift tags...easy to make and a fun way to dress up a Christmas gift.

It would be cute to embroider or write the gift recipient's name on the snowman.

I just might try making these for our Christmas BUNCO!

I think the girls would enjoy these and they are so festive!

Red & Silver

This lantern really captures my eye with it's red paint and red and silver ornaments.

It sure makes the Christmas season bright!

And here are more reds with silver glittering in the snow!

My Christmas Bunny Tree Topper

This is my Bunny Christmas Tree Topper...I call her "Miss Flower".

She's a hand-painted glass blown ornament made by German artists.

I had a hard time choosing a Christmas tree topper - you will not believe how many glass blown ornaments this Christmas gift shop has to choose from - the store has several rooms and each is just filled to the brim with so many beautiful ornaments.

I chose "Miss Flower" because I thought it was so unusual to see a bunny Christmas tree topper instead of the usual Snowman or Santa.

I love Snowmen and Santa Clauses but I'm crazy about Bunnies too.

"Miss Flower" is about ten and an half inches tall.

And she is soooo precious I keep her in my china cabinet just so I can enjoy her all year long.

Cold, Cold Heart

I fell in HEART with this snowy, icy cold but lovely ornament.

As Hank Williams sang so many years ago...

"Why can't I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold, cold heart."

My Angel Snowman Silver Spoon Ornament

I love my hand-painted Angel Snowman Silver Spoon ornament!

I bought mine from the very talented Laurie's Charming Designs.

I posted previously about this stunning ornament (here).

I actually bought four different spoons...keeping one for myself and giving one to each of my three sister-in-laws for Christmas one year.  I must confess I wanted to keep all of them they were so beautiful.  But I also wanted to give one to each of my wonderful sister-in-laws.

The Angel Snowman is sitting in a Waterford crystal sugar bowl...this sugar bowl and it's matching creamer was an anniversary gift from my employer one year.

On each fifth year anniversary my employer would let its employees select a nice gift for their service to the company.   This particular anniversary I picked out the sugar and creamer Waterford crystal set.

My adorable Angel Snowman has a special place in my china cabinet so I can look at it all year long.

Do you have a special ornament that you treasure?

An Ornamental Bulb Swag

This Christmas decor is interesting and very colorful...similar to the ornament bulb wreaths we've seen but this time the bulbs are attached with ribbon into a garland swag.

It might take a huge volume of bulbs though...but if done on a small scale like this window...I think it is beautiful.

What do you think?

Miniature Glass Ornaments

Vintage glass bulbs are all the rage now.

This set is lovely.

On our way to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, while traveling on the Lincoln Highway, we pass through a tiny Pennsylvania town called New Oxford.  And in New Oxford is a wonderful gift shop called "The Christmas Haus".  They sell authentic German traditions...ornaments, nutcrackers, smokers, candle arches, nativities, pyramids and it's a Steiff Toy Club Store too.

One year I bought a beautiful miniature glass ornament set for my niece as a bridal gift.  I loved it so much I returned and bought one for myself.   Take a close look at the miniature glass ornaments... their tops for hanging are star shaped!  How cute is that!

A little information about the gifted artisans...

In 1597 in Lauscha, Germany, two families, including the Müller family, began to create mouth blown glassware for household use. Two and one-half centuries later, in the 1860s, the Müller-Blech family customized their craft to create mouth blown, hand painted Christmas ornaments.

Today, their ornaments come from Inge Glas, the 14th generation of the Müller-Blech family now in Neustadt by Coburg, and from Hausdörfer Glas Manufaktur, the 5th generation of the Hausdörfer family in Haselbach, the small village "over the mountain" from Lauscha.

According to an old German tradition, the tree of a newlywed couple should include these 12 ornaments to insure blessings and happiness for their life together.

The meaning of each mouth blown and hand painted ornament is detailed on the decorative heirloom quality wooden gift box -making these make a wonderful gift for a newlywed couple or as a wedding shower present. Each Bridal Collection includes ...

A Pine Cone for motherhood and fruitfulness
An Angel for God's guidance in the home
A Santa for unselfishness and goodwill
A House for shelter and protection
A Flower Basket for good wishes
A Rose for beauty and affection
A Fruit Basket for generosity
A Rabbit for hope and faith
A Bird for happiness and joy
A Fish for Christ's blessing
A Heart for true love
A Teapot for hospitality

A heart and fruit basket

A bird and a pine cone

Angel and Rose

Santa and Flower Basket

A teapot and house

A fish and rabbit
